Professor Rick Roderick, in his lectures for The Teaching Company: The Self Under Seige, describes the many ways the individual, in a post modern society, must negotiate a culture that encourages self before others, cult behaviors, religious extremism, and must negotiate the breakdown of behavioral guidelines, which emphasize entertainment instead of reflection and compassion. In the glare of the TV screen, these souls are waiting some kind of wisdom to animate their lives.
