In the Beginning: Awareness, Wisdom & Duty
32″ x 36″ oil/canvas
I envisioned the garden of Eden story with Adam, shy Eve and the Snake, the symbol of wisdom. They look like stuffed cloth figures that dollmakers often purchase to clothe. Think of the doll costumes as the cultural imprint. Innocence changes as, outside of Eden, they are clothed in worldliness and wisdom. They make choices, feel pain, know anger and love. Their souls will be written upon and their lives filled with nuanced choices. The writing will be done, not just by emulating traditions, but also by the global changes in our electronic, consumer societies of international scope.
